How can I get my cat to stop peeing outside of the litter box since my boyfriend moved in? The cat has always been litter box perfect. But he actually peed on the kitchen counter and is hiding all the time. I know he is afraid of my boyfriend (who doesn't like cats, but would never hurt the animal) but I don't know how to calm the cat down and prevent him from hiding and peeing somewhere besides the litter box. I am getting uptight too. Can you help? |
| It's not a litter box problem. The cat is marking its territory. Put his litter box near where he's urinating. Cats don't mark their territory and go to the bathroom in he same place. |
How do I stop my dog from peeing in the house? I have an 8 year old pomeranian who pees in the house but only when I am asleep or spend the night out. He has a dog door and uses it during the day, he never pees in the house during the day. When I do shot him the pee he will hide and knows it is bad, but a day or two later he will do it again. I never lock him outside I only point it out or hold him and show it to him, this alone is enough to make him try and run. I never hit him but he is aware this is a bad thing to do. Any ideas? I am a horrible person when it comes to discipline since my dogs are my guys |
| 8 years is tough! His patterns are already established. However, one thing is for sure, most dogs won't connect any punishment with an event that occurred too long ago. If he pees at midnight and you point it to him at 7am, he understand the pee is bad, but not so much that his peeing there was bad! =) Did you crate train him when he was a puppy? You can try crating him at night and when you leave for a while. He will most likely not potty in his crate because he will view it as his "den." He needs to learn not to pee in your den though! Another thing that helps is to try not giving him water past a certain time. I usually let my dog have a chance to drink after his evening walk and then cut him off for the rest of the night (7 or so). Then I always make sure to take him out specifically just to pee right before I go to bed, even if it's very late and he's sleeping already! Also, caging your dog at night might feel like tough love at first, but most come to think of it as their little "den" and will haul toys in and out of it and go in voluntarily in the evening. After a few weeks you can try to give him another shot at being loose at night. Just remember to take him out first thing when you let him out of the crate in the morning. Also, if he does pee in the crate at night, it's much easier to toss his blanket in the washer than to scrub your carpet! You may want to talk to your vet if you think it's medical related... Good Luck! |
How do you hide the sound of peeing/pooping? I get self conscious, lol |

How do I keep my cat from peeing on the floor? I have a 2 year old cat and my parents want to put her down because she is peeing on the floor. I think it's the lamest reason to put my cat down for. We have tried sticking her nose in it but that just made her scared and hide all the time. How do I stop her from peeing on the floor? How do you make the smell go away and make her more social with the family again? |
| Teach it to piss on your face instead. |
Accidentally 'walked in' on a woman peeing outdoors? I went to the bar this weekend. While waiting in line I had to pee badly. I saw a dumpster down the alley and walked over.
But when I got back there, a woman was hidden, squatting. She was just peeing away on the asphalt. I didn't know what to do, so I said "sorry" and walked to the other side of the alley and peed against the wall.
Do other women pee outside when you're drinking? What should I do in this situation? |
| haha. I was born and raised, and still live in Alaska. I spend A LOT of time outdoors in the summer, and yes, I always have to pee outside in the woods. I have to say I'm not shy and when I gotta go, I go, just like any man would do. I have peed outside in an alley behind some garbage cans in the middle of downtown Seattle, and behind a bar in Maryland. LOL If I would you, I'd have just laughed it off and gave her a high five for not being one of those girls who can't be a little rugged sometimes. Haha. So, to answer your question, about 95% of the women in the Big AK would answer "Yes, all the time" to your question! LOL |
How do I get my 2 year old chi to stop peeing on things in the house?? My chihuahua is now 2 years old. He is very smart and litter box trained for why I am work. Lately he has started not even asking to go outside or in his litter box, But is peeing on my bed, or anything he lift his leg on. He hides after he does this, I dont know what to do?? Is this because he is not fixed???? HELP?? |
If he is intact it may be marking behaviour, that is, him saying this is area is mine. There really is no reason to not neuter your dog unless you definite plans to breed him.
That being said, when a dog has accidents in the house, unless the dog is sick, it can only ever be the humans fault, not the dog's. He either isn't getting walked enough or is seeking attention. Regular walks with lots of praising when he goes outside will go a long way with dealing with the problem.
If you catch him as he is peeing in the house, say NO to him once carry him outside immediately, and if he continues to go outside follow up with a lot of praising. Never rub his nose it it after the fact.
If he is hiding after he does this, it sounds like he knows what he did is wrong, if you simply yell/punish him for going in the house, he'll continue to go inside, but find more out of the way places to go so he doesn't get caught.
I've never litter trained a dog but I could see this being a bit confusing to him, try and come up with some options like a doggy door that will allow the pooch to let himself out if he needs to. And keep up with positive reinforcement when he does go outside, it will work much better than simply yelling at him when he does go inside. Good luck. |
My dog 3 days ago started peeing in beds & is hiding n the closet under a blanket & her nose is dry & Warm? She always want to be with people, and alway wants to go outside. Now she just wants to stay in the closet with a blanket on her. What should i do? |
This is a huge behavior shift. Something had to happen to her to cause this change. Was there a fight, did someone move into or out of the home, was there a big storm? Something had to trigger this kind of reaction. Closets are dark and safe, something can only come at them from one location. Blankets carry scents which are probably soothing (smells like the family).
Until you find out what event triggered this behavior you best bet is to be warm and supportive. Coax her out of the closet with treats and reward her when she comes out. Pet her, speak soothingly and stay calm. Do not yell at or around the dog. She is very sensitive and fragile right now. Give her some time and hopefully she will behave normally again. If not I would take her to the vet and see if they can help. |
How do I get my cat to stop peeing on my carpet and furniture? She uses her litter box to do #2, but hides under my coffee table when I'm not watching to pee. I have a basement suite in my parent's house and they want me to get rid of of her. She is my 5 year old son's cat, we've had her for almost 3 years. She started a while ago, but only sometimes. Now it's every time she has to go. Help. I don't want to have to give her away. |

How can I break my dog from peeing when he gets near me? Every time I get near my German Shepherd Dog he pees. He is 6 months old. He doesn't do it to my wife unless she scolds him. I try to talk to him with my sweetest voice and still he pees. If I try to call him he always goes and hides behind my wife. He loves her and acts as if he is scared of me? How can I fix these problems? Help me PLEASE! |
He is doing submissive urination. Some things that may help:
1. Try and crouch down so that you don't appear so big.
2. Throw him some yummy treats (cheese, bacon) from time to time.
3. The dog is currently more comfortable with your wife because she gives him food, so you should do most of the feeding from now on.
4. Hand-feed him
Hand-feed him some kibble one by one. If he bites too hard while trying to get at his food, ignore him for a few seconds. Then start feeding him again. Hand-feeding is good for bonding and establishing your leadership.
5. Try and do some obedience training sessions everyday. Enroll in a class or get a good obedience book, and practice with him for short sessions (10-15 minutes) every day. This will help establish you as a leader, improve your bond with your dog, exercise your dog's mind, and give you good tools that you can use to help control him in the house.
